Future Shock provides web hosting on powerful Microsoft Windows 2003 based servers - we do not provide Linux hosting. We offer a number of different hosting plans to suit every budget, with prices as low as £20 per year for basic hosting.

Our servers are provided by Rackspace UK and are located in London data centres operating with at least 99.99% uptime. We provide domain registration and management services - we are a Nominet Member and tag holder (for .uk domains) and JANET Approved ISP Member (for .ac.uk and .gov.uk domains). We are a Comodo SSL partner allowing us to add fantastically priced HTTPS secure encrypted communication to your website in just minutes.

We are a small family-run business situated at the edge
of the Peak District in the centre of the UK. We've been trading as Future Shock since 1995 and became a UK private limited company in 2004. We have a very broad range of experience in the design, programming and marketing of both web-based and more traditional media.

We have worked with clients of all scales, ranging from international investment banks and multinational PLCs
to sole traders and personal home sites. We've built

Information for Developers

The following names (in precedence order) can be used for default documents on your site: index.aspx, default.aspx, index.asp, default.asp, index.php, default.php, index.htm, index.html, default.html. Some of these will not be available if your account doesn't include support for certain scripting languages (.aspx requires ASP.NET, .asp requires ASP, and .php requires PHP).

All directories in your account have write permission as standard. Directory browsing is disabled by default.

SMTP Server for sending mail from scripts will be smtp followed by your domain name, for example mail.your_domain.com

If you require scripts to be executed on a scheduled basis, you will need to contact us detailing your requirements. This service is provided on a consultancy basis.

We do not provide any further programming advice or support except on a consultancy basis.

ASP & ASP.NET

Script execute permission is set on all directories in your account. Session timeout is set to 20 minutes, script timeout is 90 seconds. Buffering and ParentPaths are enabled, the default language is VBscript (JavaScript is also available). The following additional ASP Components are provided (click on the links for more information and code samples). It may be possible to install additional trusted components upon request and at charge to the account holder.

ActiveX Data Object (ADO) - component for connecting to data sources (databases, spreadsheets, text files, etc.).
Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) - prefered component for sending mail from scripts (especially multipart MHTML messages and/or bulk mailouts).
Indexing Service (if available on your account) - provides site search functionality from scripts (within webpages, MS Office documents, and more).
Microsoft XML Parser version 4 (MSXML4) - provides full XML and XSL functionality to scripts.
Persits AspUpload - provides file upload functionality to scripts (from HTML forms).
ChestySoft csImageFile - provides server-side image-manipulation (online manual).
ASE ChartDirector - provides server-side chart generation (download manual).

PHP

Our servers provide PHP version 4.4 from The PHP Group. All standard installation extensions are available. Script names must end with the extension .php

Front Page Server Extensions

We STRONGLY recommend against using these - they are a security weekpoint in the Microsoft webserver, and have been responsible for a large number of malicious attacks on servers around the world (although Microsoft have now provided patches that fix these holes).
